start construction

Starting Pattern Cutting and Construction

Friday
Pattern cutting, i absolutely love it! we were modeling on the stand today and i much prefer this to the flat patterns as you can see the formation of the structure your trying to achieve. i felt like i picked the process up pretty quickly and i could get my head around this better than the flat patterns. i need to complete the drawing.

Thursday
Construction - i ended the day with a headache! construction is really hard. i've used a sewing machine since i was in year 9 at school but an industrial machine is sooo different. all my seam samples need re doing as they are either wrong or rubbish - or both. the overlocker is to fast and i was nearly burned by the steam press! not a good day!

Wednesday
had the library induction today - i thought it was going to be extremely boring however it did turn out to be quite useful learning about all the online resources.
in the afternoon we met steve the other computer guy, the lesson wasn't what i expected as the timetable lists the lesson as being illustrator - so i figured it would be that rather than InDesign but it was good to find out the basics of how the InDesign program worked.

Tuesday
*notes need writing up*
our IT session with jamie was cancelled in the afternoon so we only have PPRD with tilly and sarah this morning. we discussed the course layout and structure and looked at the marking format which is good to know - i was however disappointed to find out that at the end of the course we will only come out with a pass mark rather than a mark which represents our pass level, which at this very very early stage makes me certain ill go on to complete the BA fashion final year.
we discussed the fashion debate we will be taking part in in a couple of weeks. my role is the whip!lol!

Monday
having done all my research and compiled all my ideas over the weekend i was able to just go ahead and get on with my mood board. i was really pleased with the final outcome, i felt it really conveyed the sense of spice. when i initially began my research i focused on the aesthetics of india. i looked into india architecture costume and print, this i feel features heavily in my mood board. as far as the fashion influences on my board i referred back to the indian base and looked at embellishment and intricate embroidery. in the fabric provided i was lucky to find an embroided fabric which i cut away around the stitch therefore revealing the print images behind. having reviewed my final outcome and that of other students i was pleased with mine however i feel in future making my mood boards more structured and formal will make my design work more professional.
