Organic Project

task: organic project , complete a sketch book , mood board and final piece in two days.

i loved the project but found the 2 day time limit really tough. i was pleased with my initial research and concept. i started by investigating organic architecture because i didn't just want to go for the obvious and do plants and flowers, my research at this stage was really inspiring i had loads of designs and ideas going through my head and set about doing my mood board. i looked at the collections of Christopher Kane, Lanvin, Emanuel Ungaro, Givenchy and Balenciaga and gain these were extremley inspiring and gve me loads of ideas. this is totally my kind of project. ive studied textiles since year 9 at school and subsequently alot of my design work is very heavily textile influenced. i love working and experimenting with pleating and fabric manipulation so this was a lovely project.

the top section of my piece is based on the organic architecture images i looked at in my research. by pleating the fabric one way with two lines of stitching and then pleating the fabric between the lines in the opposite direction i created a very structured, formal effect to the floay silk fabric - basically the opposite effect of organic architecture, where the intention is to take a hard structured form and soften it.

the back section is directly inspired by an alexander mcqueen dress. the back is pleated strips of lace gathered together to form a bustle shape. the overall effect links to the ruffles of the bird feathers which i looked into with my research.

im pleased with my outcome as far as my design board and final piece are concerned -but my sketch book needs alot of work, i just run out of time - time managment is definatly an area i need to work on!
